CHUM (Capitol Hill United Ministries) is sponsoring
Community Prayer
Services for a World at War
on a Sunday each month.  Please note change of
day and time for the summer CHUM interfaith prayer services - -These non-
denominational, non-political prayer gatherings will offer an opportunity for us to
come together as community and call to mind a world where so many are
suffering from the effects of war, hunger, homelessness, disease, and
hopelessness.

We need your help!  Recently, DenUM has seen requests for service grow
beyond our ability to respond. We need your help now just to keep up, especially
as we head into the winter season. Donations can be brought to DenUM at 1717
East Colfax Ave. between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. M/T/Th/F or 9:00 a.m. till noon

Dialogues on Homelessness Group continues to focus and energize for more work in
the community. Meetings are now the the 4th Monday of each month at the Tears-
McFarlane House, 1290 Williams St. The group will focus on two issues – 1) Working with
and expanding the Adopt-a-Family program currently promoted by the Mayor among
congregations to include neighbors and neighborhood groups; and 2) Working to
promote the homelessness dialogues throughout other neighborhoods in the city and

Colorado Clergy for Equality in Marriage: If you are interested in attending regular
meetings, the CCEM meeting schedule -- unless otherwise notified, is the last Thursday
of each month, 10 AM at Washington Park UCC. CCEM now has 122 members! Please

Campaign for Responsible Development begins Union Station development
campaign.
Denver’s Union Station will soon be redeveloped with hundreds of millions of
tax dollars.  When taxpayers are asked to help pay for development, all segments of our
community should be uplifted.  The Campaign for Responsible Development is a broad
coalition of groups working to secure community benefits that will make the project
environmentally and economically sustainable: green building, good jobs, and affordable

Domestic Violence Initiative for Women with Disabilities, a CHUM Coupon Grant

CHARG Speakers Bureau. CHARG mental health consumers have put together a
speakers' bureau of folks who are available to talk about mental illness in general, the
CHARG partnership model, and especially, their own personal stories of their
experiences with mental illness. Contact CHARG Director, David Burgess at

Colorado Housing Investment Fund (CHIF) has speakers available and willing to visit
churches to talk about the CO Housing Investment Fund. Brad Wood, member of CHUM’s
board of representatives and our rep to the CHIF Coalition. His e-mail is

Capitol Hill Family Initiative Collaborative is a localized Denver Dept. of Human
Services program that is able to assist TANF-eligible families residing in Capitol Hill with
basic needs as well as counseling, supervised visitation, truancy issues, mentoring, and
other supports. Collaborative members include CHUM, The Gathering Place, Warren
Village, The Empowerment Project, FreshStart and others. The group is also recruiting
foster and adoptive parents in the neighborhood. Contact Site Coordinator, Angela

Families First hosts support groups for Parents of Pre-Schoolers, Grandparents and

Newly re-named “10 year plan to end homelessness” is now called “Denver’s
Road Home”.

Denver Urban Ministries (DenUM) Brown Bag Series: This series of informal
educational opportunities for service providers is free of charge. Participants are
encouraged to bring a lunch and enjoy an hour of conversation and discovery. The
series is held the last Wednesday of each month on the third floor of DenUM.  Interested
persons are encouraged to register, space is limited.  Presentations begin promptly at 12:
30 p.m. The agency doors are locked at 12:40 p.m.  Free parking is available on the
streets south of DenUM. Registration can be made by emailing:

Summit 2008
Housing Justice!
is sponsoring a one-day statewide Housing Justice! Summit,
convening 250 interfaith community leaders from around the State, on June 2, 2008,
Noon to 8:00 pm, at Regis University.
Workshops are planned to train and motivate people to work together, identifying specific
opportunities to build awareness of alternatives to address the needs of those most
vulnerable in all our communities, creating healthier, more balanced and inclusive
communities.
