The 2010 New Year has arrived with the usual fanfare.   CHUM, in its mission to
be a spiritual presence and resource in the inner city, to advocate for our
neighbors in need and to strengthen and sustain our member communities, would
like to help begin this New Year with a “Call to Service.”  This “Call” will begin in
the month of January, in honor of Martin Luther King Day.  What a great way to
celebrate this holiday by offering an opportunity to engage our citizenry with those
agencies and programs who need our help. The volunteering of precious time,
treasure and talent and making one-to-one connections with those in need is what
can make a real difference in heart and soul of all.
We thank the agencies who sent in their hopes for volunteerism.  To participate in
this “Call to Service,” we ask you to publish and distribute, over the next few
weeks, the attached list of agencies with their requests, to your congregations and
communities.  We also ask you to remind your members about the need for the
renewed commitment of the giving of time, talent and treasure to those who are
the “least of these” in our lives and in our communities.
As members of CHUM we again offer an opportunity for the continued opening our
hearts with hospitality and time by being part of the solution and responding to the
call of “loving one another.”
